I read this book after reading a magazine article about Henry Worsley's attempt to cross the Antarctic solo. This is an exciting account of an earlier crossing, along with two companions. It nicely mixes the history of Shackleton's efforts with the efforts of descendants of Shackleton's crew. Full of details about training and preparation as well as the struggle to cross the Antarctic on foot, it is a true adventure book that puts you there on the trek. Of course, it cannot match the remarkable story of Shackleton's adventure, but anyone who enjoyed the story of Shackleton will enjoy this tribute to his adventurous spirit. Great book.
